Guess i ́m not the only one who reported the problem that since a few days songs don ́t play when i push the play button. Both mine and those of others.

Inappropriate?we've been trying hard but can't reproduce this problem. sometimes the track take some time to load. what os/browser/broswer version are you running and could you give me a url?
I’m unsure
-
Thanks for the reply, Nils, but it starts getting kinda annoying. To me it doesn ́t seem as if the tracks load, because there is no "Pause" symbol when pushing "Play" and i cannot listen to them neither after one or ten minutes, nor after half an hour. The problem is that i can ́t give you a specific url, cause the tracks wich are not playable vary. This morning, i.e., none was playable and i tried lots of songs, but yesterday evening everything worked fine.
I don ́t know if this helps you but i ́m running windows xp with the latest firefox update. -
Inappropriate?ouch. still trying to figure out what could be causing the problem. Hope to find the answer soon! keep me posted.
-
uploading tracks works... Still cannot play. Tell me what i can do to help you. -
firefox is version 3.0.10... Can ́t play anything. -
Today, everything is working fine :) would really know how come. -
I am still toast, exact same problem as described below :( so can't upgrade to pro until this works. -
Inappropriate? My problem is very consistent. When I go to http://soundcloud.com/music (or http://soundcloud.com/computer-paul), the first track never, ever plays, but the second track always, always plays. When I try to embed a track into my blog, it never plays. I am on FF 3.0.9/Mac 10.5.6, and I have the same issue in Safari. I also booted up Ubuntu and was able to repro the issue on FF for Ubuntu in the exact same manner for both my blog (http://computerpaul.blogspot.com/) and my soundcloud page.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? My uploaded track isn't playing back at all either. When I hit Play it switches to the Pause button as if it's playing the track even though the track never starts.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?seems to be easier to reproduce on slower connections, we're soon upgrading the player and that hopefully helps to get rid of these issues. if the button turns to pause it means that the request of loading the audio should have been sent. try waiting for a while and see what happens or try reload the page.
-
Inappropriate?I am also having this issue. I am able to push the play button wherein it turns to a pause button but will not play the track ever. In the status bar it says it is connecting to the server then it appears to time out (It just switches to "Done").
I am currently using FireFox 3.5.1 on Windows 7 RC, have also had no luck on Ubuntu as well. I have tried this on several different connections, currently connected to a fiber connection so the internet speed is not the issue here.
I’m frustrated.
-
Inappropriate?I too have this problem.
Pressing the play button does NOT turn it into a pause button. Not a single track of the numerous I have tested works. I'm not on a slow connection either (6Mbit)
OS: Linux 2.6.30 (Gentoo)
Browsers tested:
Firefox 3.5
Konqueror 4.2.4
Opera 10 Beta 2 Build 4492
Always same result.
I’m putting on the look of disapproval. ಠ_ಠ

Inappropriate?Addendum: As you guys recommended in another thread, i opened the Firefox error console.
Among many CSS errors about unkown properties being ignored by FF, these are the JavaScript errors i'm getting:
Fehler: [Exception... "update.locale file doesn't exist in either the XCurProcD or GreD directories" nsresult: "0x80520012 (NS_ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND)" location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1/components/nsUpdateService.js :: getLocale :: line 549" data: no]
Quelldatei: file:///usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1/components/nsUpdateService.js
Zeile: 549
And, most importantly, here:
Fehler: Helpers.getPlayer(this).playPause is not a function
Quelldatei: http://a1.soundcloud.com/javascripts/...
Zeile: 1023
(Output is in German)
Thank you for your support; i'd be really happy if you could help me!
I’m looking forward

I get this exact same thing. Disturbed that this was marked solved by the soundcloud people when it's clearly not.
My Firefox error log shows the following:
Error: _s.o._createSound is not a function
Source File: http://a1.soundcloud.com/javascripts/...
Line: 767
Error: Helpers.getPlayer(this).playPause is not a function
Source File: http://a1.soundcloud.com/javascripts/...
Line: 991
The player will not change to a pause button or start to play the song no matter how many times I click. Each click produces another instance of the playPause is not a function error. This does not happen reproducably so it's a challenge to say exactly what causes the problem, but this is on Windows XP SP2, FF version 3.5.5. The same link works fine in Internet Explorer 8. http://soundcloud.com/the-agriculture... is the offending link at the moment, though this happens to me often. -
hi Stephen,
it seems that the Flash plugin in your Firefox is not working properly. If you have any Flashblock-type extensions installed, you'll need to whitelist soundcloud.com. Other known cause could be an old version of Adblock extension (recommended is Adblock Plus instead).
Are you able to play any of the tracks on our site? Also what exact Flash version is reported here:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/a...
greets,
Matas -
Thanks for the quick reply Matas -
This problem is exceedingly hard to debug because it's not very reproducable, most of the time the player works fine but sometimes it gets in that state I described above. Are there known conflicts with MediaWrap? I installed this to get around Firefox problems on other sites.
My Flash version via the link you sent is:
You have version 10,0,32,18 installed
I will change the Adblock version and comment back.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Ok. I upgraded to Firefox 3.5.1 and the problem is gone - at least for firefox.
(I'm on Gentoo Linux, so I had to remerge xulrunner-1.9.1.1-r2 and mozilla-firefox-3.5.1-r2) - no errors in the console, everything plays as expected.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?same problem on firefox 3.5.2 and ie 7.0 on both xp and vista (flash 10 installed)
I’m despondent
-
Inappropriate?Same problem, although tracks on widget players, as well as the tracks that appear minimized in the dashboard(for example as "the guy you are following favourited a track : "), do play correctly.
I’m frustrated
-
I've seen this happening on my computer as well sometimes using Firefox. It worked again after clearing my browser cache and logging out and in again. Can you confirm? -
Inappropriate?I fixed it by updating to firefox 3.0.13.
-
Perfect! -
Inappropriate?Ok, I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything, but I'm still having this problem.
I'm on OS X 10.5.8 using Safari 4.0.3
The error console yields only the following message: "SoundCloud player initialization failed"
I’m sad
-
Do you have a link for me I could look into? What happens in a different browser? Same thing? -
Basically, any song refuses to play, giving that error in the error console. I've tried reloading the page, waiting forever, restarting Safari, but nothing works.
If I try FireFox 3.5.2 the site works fine. -
Hey Henrik - do you have ClickToFlash installed on your Safari? Any chance you could whitlist SoundCloud if that's the case? -
Actually, I do have ClickToFlash installed. I hadn't thought of it since pages using flash usually contain a placeholder for ClickToFlash to load the flash if the user wishes. :S
I'll try whitelisting soundcloud and let you know. -
Ok, I tried adding SoundCloud to the whitelist. No sigar. :( Still not working. -
This reply was removed on 11/19/09.
see the change log -
Inappropriate?Still nothing!!!!!
I've only had 1% success playing tracks off anyone's computer. Mac or PC. Firefox/IE/ or Safari... Nothing helps. THe bandwidth here is great.... I have a paid account, but no one can ever play the songs back. I am starting to doubt the coders you have over there. In Rhode Island, California, and Oklahoma... my friends all report the same problems.
I’m still very sad
-
Inappropriate?Hi Andrew, that sounds totally weird as we can't reproduce this (means, I played all tracks fine on FF, Chrome and Safari) so it looks to be an individual problem. We could do a Skype screensharing session so I can see what you do and what happens on the screen.
