the registering restrictions keeps people off
i would love to see a capture protection if someone wants to add a commendto a soundcloud rather then beeing forced to create an account.
I wanted to make an experiment with an unreleased song of our band and let others add their ideas or thoughts about it, but it failed as everyone blamed us that they need to register for doing that.
there is always too much registration everywhere, people get sick of it - not even a possible open id log in would hold people.
i really beg that soundcloud will be open for everyone - i don`t want advices from other soundcloud users or musicinas - i want it from my fancloud - not only playing (there are severel alternative players doing that)

Inappropriate?Valid point, Christian. We're thinking about adding OpenID or Facebook Connect, though I don't have an exact ETA on this but I'll check.
In the meantime, to avoid spam issues and trolling, we need to make registrations mandatory for commenting. -
OpenID or Facebook Connect will not fit in for nowadays users.
Commenting on a blog entry (even with high frequent visitors) don`t need a registration, there are several spam protection possibilities that don`t need registrations.
You could let decide the uploader himself (like you do with free public mp3) so he could decide if he can handle the "big amount" of trolls and spam. A good capture protection is all that is needed and in my opinion the only correct way.
Well, the other side would be that soundcloud would miss increasing registering people. But who wants the "one time commenters" anyway ... -
Inappropriate? An additional improvement on this idea might be to allow a 'listener profile'. This would be a profile with a little different feel for people who just want to come comment and listen, but don't really record or upload anything. I have been wrestling with the same challenges as Christian.
A lot of the people who want to follow my music are not musicians or recordists themselves so it is cumbersome and seemingly pointless for them to create an account at a site where they are expected to upload something.
I hope this issue gets some serious thought and is eventually implemented in some fashion.

That`s exactly what I mean. All the other music portal`s where you can vote for the favorite songs - only after registration - are so stupid, cause most time it`s an artist himself.
OPEN IT - OPEN IT - FREEDOM 4 EVERYONE :) -
Inappropriate?Christian, George,
Thanks for a lot for your input. I'll add it to the discussion.
I believe there's quite a fine line between opening up to as much people as possible while at the same time trying to ensure that the site remains a useful environment for professional collaboration. I do however understand your point that it can be a hassle for people having to sign up and as I mentioned, we will discuss this.
As for timings, we're currently busy preparing a major update for late October so we'll most probably be able to get on this after the release.
Thanks again,
David
