Pro accounts too expensive
Hello from Paris!
I love Soundcloud, but I really think the Pro accounts are way way too expensive. I compare it with something like Flickr that gives you a Pro account for $25 per year. Your cheapest option is $100. That's enormous! There's no way I'd find the upgrade worth that sort of money.
I think there's a psychological barrier around the $25 mark that will stop a lot of people upgrading, and I think it's likely that you'd get at least four times as many subscriptions by dividing the price by 4 (meaning that you earn more in the end).
I'd love to give you money, because I think you have a great service, well executed, but $100 is just too much for me.

Inappropriate?I agree - this is an outstanding service and business model....except for the cost. I'm actually kind of shocked that it is so expensive. I will not buy a pro account unless the cost comes down.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?we're working a lot on trying to keep soundcloud amazingly excellent. We want everything from servers, design, format support & functionality to be great and without any interface cluttering ads – the downside of that is of course that it can't be done for free or a too low fee. So, we've opted to go with the current pricing, adding a discount if you sign up for a whole year but also kept the limits for the free accounts quite liberal. So, there's quite a lot that can be done with the free accounts but if you're really getting into the Pro features we're hoping it'll be ok to pay us a bit for that. If we grow larger and have in the future have the possibility to change the pricing we would love to, but we also have to make sure that Soundcloud is not only super nice to use but sustainable too!
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I've looked at imeem, SoundCloud, and Bandcamp, and unless SoundCloud were to change its pricing, I'm going to stick with Bandcamp. Imeem's association with SNOCAP is toxic. Bandcamp won't embed directly in Facebook (but it will in LiveJournal)...and it's free and provides every format available. 5 uploads isn't enough if one is posting works in progress (which, oddly enough, SoundCloud recognizes as a format)...so I'm going to pass.

Inappropriate?I understand your needs to make money, but I agree with everyone else, this is just waaaay to expensive, especially in US dollars.
I'd be willing to consider $15-20 a month for the middle option, and I bet a lot of musicians would as well, but they are going to run like crazy from these price points.
I would set up a pro account for my Next Big Hit podcast for the submission procedure alone... EXCEPT, I know that there won't be enough musicians joining at this price point to get a good amount of quality submissions. -
Inappropriate? It is a bit expensive!!! I reckon you should get more uploads for the 9 euro a month option!!!
You should get 20! 5 a week!! Defo!!!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I think that possibly Soundcloud should try a one month promothion where they lower the price to somewhere around the 25 - 30 dollar mark and see if the numbers for that month increase enough in order to cover what would be made at the current prices.

Inappropriate?I have to chime in as well. Great service but you have to find the balance. I was excited to use the service signed up for a membership thinking I could at least use it for a few months while I needed it, but then the joy was gone when I found out that after I downgrade back to a free membership most my previously uploaded stuff would be hidden.
Was happy....but the current model is WAY too expensive. Will have to spend some more time and find something else, which I don't like.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the feedback everyone! Wanted to reach out to you and make sure you know that we're reading all of your suggestions and are considering changes in our pricing strategy. At this point we can't tell you any details but we're working on that behind the scenes and will update our blog/site as soon as we're ready.
