Limiting the massive, mindless spamming of tracks phenomenon within groups
So, i think that most people have grown tired, by now, of people spamming their tracks, or even worse, dj sets, to every group they could find on soundcloud. In fact, i think that that makes the idea of groups just pointless. Plus, i think that much people that spam don't even want to receive updates from that group and untick the option, so their dashboard remains clean. And even if you remove a track from a group because it doesn't suit it, it is likely that it will be just reposted, no matter what.
So i have two ideas:
1) the possibility for mods to prevent selected users to share tracks to the group they moderate
2) setting requisites for sharing a track with a group. which can be: track length, keywords in the "genre" field, or the way an user is related to a group: as a mod and for the interest of the group, one might most likely not want people that don't follow the updates from said group to share tracks with it, because that's just selfish spamming attitude in my book.

Inappropriate?Hi Alex,
This is a widely recognized issue. Please direct all discussion towards this thread: http://bit.ly/41kFHJ
I believe that a solution can be easily arrived at.
George -
Inappropriate?Dunno George, that's quite a different idea there. I think that most people that spam their tracks won't care/notice about what happens to their tracks after they sent them to groups, and nonetheless there are so many of them that a mod should be most of the time online and moderating the group.
I think that the first move is to give the chance to the mods to indirectly prevent, and then only clean/handle what would be left. -
this has been copied to the new thread. Looking forward to discussing this. :) -
Inappropriate?hi guys,
from my own experience I could say that changing the group's type to 'moderated' drastically improved the quality. also, if the group is getting a fair amount of submissions, it's recommended to add a few additional moderators.
you can change the type of the group on group edit page, click on 'Edit Dropbox' tab and uncheck 'Automatically approve tracks added to this group.'
you can add additional moderators on 'Edit Members' page.
by the way, in a near future we're planning to introduce some changes in SoundCloud groups, that should effectively reduce the amount of submission spam. -
Inappropriate?matas, the point is that i wish that I and other people didn't have to spend so much time either cleaning up the spammers' mess or, as you suggest, to allow tracks / delete them(have you noticed how long it takes to only moderate a small page of tracks, with the loadings? it does take a bit on my end of the wire).
I love soundcloud and enjoy listening to music there, socializing and generally spending some of the little free time i have on there, but if i had to spend the time baby-sitting to make a place i care about enjoyable, i would either stop caring and let it be a mess, or stop spending time on it. The ideas we users propose aim at make us save time and make the experience on soundcloud better(from our point of view that is), and you can see by the amount of feedback regarding that matter here on getsatisfaction how users feel about it(this is not even the first topic i've created about this problem). Some groups really get lots of tracks, i don't know who would even accept to even share the moderating task. I hate it to see soundcloud getting similar to myspace, in terms of self-promotion bullshit.
I hope that the changes you have in mind will actually help prevent this kind of attitude, or at least give the tools to help people do that themselves. -
Inappropriate?I agree with Alex. It is a huge problem. I have 6 groups for the 6 labels I run and I am spending more and more time each day getting rid of all the junk and spam. If the user was to take the time and read to group descriptions I would be fine. But they don't. I have the stuff like "NO DUBSTEP ALLOWED" in the description and what do I get? Dubstep. Many times from the same users. So I started leaving horrible feed on their tracks...guess what..they stop sending me tracks. I feel like I am adding to the problem but it's the only way to make it stop.

Inappropriate?I gotta say that Derrick's method of leaving comments on songs helps a bit, some groups are a bit cleaner now that i am asking, with timed comments, to be polite. Some others send a pm saying "suck my dick", but it's ok.
-
I have since begin employing derrick's method as well and not only does it seem productive (I did take it a little farther) but it is also kind of fun. :) -
Inappropriate?Yeah it's fun, many users feel like they have the RIGHT to spam everything everywhere, because soundcloud is meant for self promotion, and who asks them to not do so is "the gay zorro of soundcloud" that needs to get a life and all that.
-
Inappropriate?LOL, nothing like a bit of Zorro humour to wash away the rainy spring blues. Thanks Alex!
I’m laughing

Inappropriate? This is just getting out of control and now to the point where I must consider if the site is worth paying for to use.
Here is a list just over the last couple of weeks that I still had in my outbox. If I were to list the users that I made comments to in their tracks it would be at least 3 times the amount:
Dj Insinio
Celt Islam
sattva
djsec
Mr-bill
NucLeARchiLD
juls
jesstermix77
DJ RIXX
jmcastel -
Sending you an email Derrick, is your username DJ Vitamin D? -
Inappropriate?Hi David. It sure is thanks.
-
Inappropriate? What's the email about? i have the same problem and had to set the groups to moderated, and since i don't have time to stay there and watch afterthem (pay-per-connect internet), they are practically freezed. Plus, commenting on tracks often leads to pointless fights full of childish insults, not what i look for at soundcloud.
-
Alex, limits on tracks that can be submitted to one and the same group with free accounts. -
Inappropriate?I noticed it yesterday, thought it was cool and was about to come giving some props, but then i noticed that it only works when you try to send a track from within the group dropbox, and not when you're on your page sending the track to the groups that appear in the drop-down list, which is the easiest way to send a track to the largest amount of groups possible.

this is one of the best points

Coming with the next release soon. -
Inappropriate?Uhm, is it just me or it didn't happen?
-
Yes, it happened. It's not very good to say the least. Kind of defeats the purpose for a free user and unsigned artist like myself. I understand the problem though. It's annoying to be listening to the dubstep page and hear a techno track. I think a better solution would be to allow groups to ban/block users and thus they wouldn't be able to send any more tracks. Additionally, you could make it so that users would have to request to join as a contributor and therefore be vetted before sending tracks. You've got to imagine these sorts of measures would stop people. It certainly could've been thought out a little better imo. Granted you need to pay to spam, but you also need to pay to promote like a gentlemen. -
Inappropriate?Did it? I still see tracks freshly uploaded being sent to dozens of groups. Just an example:

I do agree though that it should be done the other way, but i also see that soundcloud seek to earn money out of the work they do, which is absolutely right.
