issue with waveforms
About waveforms
There seem to be a recurring issue. Tracks that have been upload over a week ago still says "Sorry, that track is to hot for us!" "We're checking it right now and will try to fix it asap!" So when will my track be able to play?

Inappropriate?the "Sorry, that track is to hot for us!" message appears when the decoder can't handle the file you selected to upload. what format is the audio file?
-
Inappropriate?*.mp3 i believe, but the file, it has been uploaded to the server i presume? If the decoder breaks i think it should be wise to implement a download feature just for those files maby. Its abit anoying that the encoder process dosent fix it after such a long time.
-
Inappropriate?I have this too, but with exactly the same (mp3) encoder that I use for other stuff that went through fine.
Also think that displaying "We couldn't create the waveform for your track. We're checking it right now and will try to fix it asap!" gives the false impression people are actually working on the problem.
Just say "Sorry, this will never work because there's a problem with the uploaded file, when in doubt try again" is more appropriate.
I did upload over a wireless connection, so maybe a file got corrupted or something. Will try again with the 'replace' function, but makes it not less sucky.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Uploaded the same file (that plays fine stand alone) on this wired connected computer - still "too hot".
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?hey mate - what decoder are you using? i have just uploaded several mp3 djsets each over 1:20min long - and over wireless without a prob - will watch over next week to see if anything goes wrong;)
-
Inappropriate?I'm not really sure, it's the one with an ancient version of Sound Forge. I don't want to upgrade because that's $$, but any freeware ones you think I could try?
I’m warming to the idea
-
Inappropriate?totally understand - right now, i am using an old version of roxio (7) to record - and i am trying audacity (try that;) although it is giving me grief (though only because i amusing vista)
i use 44.1, 320kbps and although files are large, dont seem to have a prob.
i also have soundforge 5 lol - but find the sound editor in roxio is easier to record - my only problem is always having to run gains very low to get decent record levels - still workin on that problem - but last night i used audacity to remove a bad buzz quite effectively.
if you have XP you shouldn't have same crash problems (i can get around them, but they are frustrating lol)
If you try audacity - you need to download lame as encoder (freeware;) i created a directory called CODECS in program files, so it's easy to find. There is also an interface called RAZORLAME (have not used it yet)
You will need to set it up first time only in audacity using edit-preferences-file formats - just locate the lame_enc.dll file;) -
Inappropriate?Okay, I'll try a different encoder. Funny thing, the last track I uploaded went through without a problem. Odd! Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm on XP SP3, will have a look at Audacity.
Now the least thing I could do is check out some of your tracks on Soundcloud! What's your user_id on there?
