Can I re-order the tracks on my user page?
I think the first song on my page is getting the most listens because, well it's at the top of the list. Problem is that it's not the song I want people to listen to first (I'd actually like that song last!). Do I really have to delete them and re-upload them in reverse order to how I want them to display?

Now you can choose in your profile whether to display tracks or sets first. Go to You->your public profile and select what tab will show up first.
This means you can create a "showcase" set and display that first (you can change the order of the tracks in a set)

Hey jymi, currently you can not rearrange the tracks on your profile page as its supposed to be similar to a "stream" of your latest tracks. However, what you can do is create a Set out of selected tracks and re-arrange tracks within that set. We'll soon be adding a profile customization feature so that you can choose what you's like displayed as default on your profile (i.e. stream of tracks, comments, sets, favorites).
Once we've added the profile customization feature you could choose to display sets as default on your profile and then have the possibility to reorder them in any way you'd like.

definitely a +1 on this feature... given that i work at multiple studios all over the city, sometimes i cant even get to a track for weeks on end. i definitely need full control over how the tracks appear on the profile page.
sets, though... nice work! -
being able to order your tracks is extremely important - its essential for your best track to be heard first by record labels, not just the very latest.

I understand the 'stream' idea, but say, like me, you've just joined the site and you are considering Pro and you want to upload old material, it would be great if the upload date could be modified so that the old stuff slots into the 'stream' correctly - this would be a different date to 'release date' probably.

Inappropriate?Hey jymi, you create a new set by using the "Add to set" button on a single track and then selecting "Add to new set". For now you can only do this from your tracks (not from the sets page) so a good starting point would be your track overview at http://soundcloud.com/music

Inappropriate?I am trying to get Sets tab to show first in my public profile by clicking on the gear icon, I get the confirmation overlay that prefs have been saved.... but the change is not reflected (after I log out and log in again, the gear menu defaults back to Mucic) I am using Firefox 3.0.10 under Ubuntu 9.04. Is there another way to save the prefs?

Having followed this topic since it's inception, it occurs to me that a good solution might be to simply(ha ha) provide users the option to "sticky" a song, and then let them reorder the sticky list. Of course this would just be a set, but would allow users to think of it differently :)
Great work on this site overall, it is maturing very nicely. For me, as a web developer, I find SoundCloud to have one of the best UI/UX out there. Bravo :)

Inappropriate?Select between showing tracks and sets is a nice feature. I think people that will check up on your public profile, can lookup your tracks much easier on sets than on showing all tracks with more "next page" buttons.
But now that we can show sets instead of tracks, I would very much like to be able to choose the order of the sets. It's important for me, to show my most important sets at the top of the page, so that people will see/hear them first. Right now its not possible to do that, but I hope it will be a feature in the future. And the same stands for tracks, when they're showed :-)

I guarantee that they will see and respond to this message. This message board has been the most effective way so far to interact with the company. They do read these boards and address the issues presented. Keep the faith brother!
Also, I believe that in the October update there will be some attention on this very detail.

Thanks for addressing this, yes, as George correctly noted, this and change the order of sets is a request we receive a lot. We hope to tackle this *after* the October release - all updates for October are pretty much set by now but I will see what I can do.

Inappropriate?With all new models being based on a "minutes of tape", except for the Pro Plus (which is unlimited), how are you supposed to "...upload as many tracks you want, whenever you want, delete, add more, repeat at any time. As long as you have, or can make, space on the tape you can just keep on uploading an infinite amount of times." - if you can't even re-order, manage, and change the order of your sets???
If you're using the analogy of "tape", at least let us arrange the tapes the way we want... no studio ever has had a row of tape saying "this is the first tape we've ever recorded, and just walk down this hall, and everything we have ever done to date is in chronological time line only..." heh, seems kinda retarded eh?
Keep in mind that for a lot of people, soundcloud.com is like a sonicbids, myspace, or facebook... you guys do have social networking features.n So, the tracks presented, and the information on someones front SC page is important. Please let us rearrange the tracks in the order we want - for promoting our page... on SoundCloud....
I jump from the dashboard to others pages on soundcloud all the time... I have about 9 pages of tracks (averaging around 45 min. in length). If I had those broken into individual songs (something my clients often request), then I would have at least 70 pages to sort through... There isn't a solid way to search just your account for tracks, so at least let us arrange the tracks so we know that page 8 contains all the "underground recordings of the bay area" and that page 3 has....
Now with the time cap, I know I'll always be switching in and out tracks and maintaining my accounts 36 hour limit (if I decide to keep my account), so re-arranging tracks just makes it easier for me to manage my time capped account...
Please consider rearranging tracks, it will make the whole "tape minutes" concept easier to deal with. Okay, here's an example... to make more room, I know that I have a lot of half-baked tracks I can take down. I know their names (I would love to be able to search just my own account, but that's another story). Question: Wouldn't it make sense to put all the "half-baked" files at the bottom of your account, that way, when a track is rotated out, you know exactly what is getting rotated out or "hidden"...
ugh... if you can rearrange tracks in a set, you should be able to rearrange tracks and sets on a page... right? I mean, it's been a year now since this came up... any news on this obvious important feature, especially since it's more important now than ever with the "tape minutes" model...

Inappropriate?I also am looking for a feature that would allow us to re-arrange tracks on our pages. Now that I have a Pro-Lite account instead of the free account, I have a lot more room to add tracks and wanted to put up some older works...but I do not want those older tunes to be at the top of my page since they are representative of an earlier time. My myspace music page easily lets me arrange my track in the player in any order I choose, and I find it kind of surprising that a site as well thought out as Soundcloud doesn't give me that ability. Since this is a site built around musicians needs (and one that we actually pay for), we should have more flexibility in this area.

Hey Jason, one way you can work is to assemble tracks as a set and make the sets page of your profile your landing page to your profile. We have discussed the arrangement of tracks today and will continue to consider it. In the meantime, the tracks page can be a chronological archive and the sets page the actual display of track/album collections.

David, thanks for the speedy reply. However, I would rather not have to put my files into sets at all at this time....I prefer the layout of individual files, especially as you can add notes, descriptions and artwork to them that can be seen without having to click through to other pages.

Inappropriate?Right... but there's no way to organize Sets, right? I have created over 20 sets already... how do I put one of the sets at the top... or do I have to create a new one?
I think the only way is to create a new one... which is what I did in order to satisfy a collection of tracks I wanted to group... but still, that set will only be at the top as long as I don't create a new one... or you guys enable moving sets around.

Ha! I should have anticipated that one. Point taken. We're considering this also. Maybe it's going to be a mixed version. Tracks stay chronological (with the ability to search tracks or alter the views (list, wave, etc) for easier access) and changing sets order. Just ideas we've been discussing today. Oh and: yes, you can delete a set and recreate it and it will show up at the top. And remove/add tracks in existing sets as well.

Inappropriate?Maybe a solution would be to make your "Profile" page be updated to have a hard-coded (an include) set or track on the page. Something that only changes when you change it - like a pref. You can set the tracks you want permanently on your page and they only change when you change them...
when I give my URL as www.soundcloud.com/jasonwolf it take the visitor to my account page, with sets as primary jump point... it should take them to my public / web profile page... where static tracks and sets can be displayed...
I put tracks I create AND record up here... but if someone is checking out my profile page, well... in the end we still need to re-order tracks and sets... I guess that should happen first before I start pushing for something else....

Despite grouping my stuff into sets and making the sets page the default for my profile, I still find consistently that the track that gets the most hits it at the top of my tracks page. Kind of a bummer as I just moved to pro and uploaded a bunch of older tunes... Seems like a basic functionality and one of the few problems with an other wise well designed site. As a pro user a simple fix would be greatly appreciated.

I know you want people to see the tracks as a stream but that's not actually the way people are using the site.
