Bring back the dropbox
As a label whose members predominantly use soundcloud as a base for uploading tracks, I feel that the newest update of combinining the shared tracks and the dropbox was a pretty bad move. Now instead of having tracks specifically uploaded to us, which was our way of receiving tracks for compilations and solo releases, we have almost 9000 tracks all stuck together in pages and pages of tracks that are just sent to us by any given user on soundcloud. We needed that separation so that we wouldn't have to wade through a sea of music to find the tracks specifically sent to just us to make our compilations happen. I hope this makes sense. Unfortunately, if this problem isn't fixed, we will have to use avenues other than soundcloud, which has been really great over the past year by the way. Please bring back the drop box.

Hey guys! If you feel you're getting to many track please try clicking the little checkbox that says "Only show tracks shared to a handful of people or less". This should make things more clear!
If you leave it checked it will remain checked next time you log-in too so you don't need to re-click it every time.

Inappropriate?Hi there! Is your sc username Fidelium? Is this supposed to be a completely "secret" dropbox? I.e. do you only want a specific set of people to know and submit over it? If so you might want to create a new account and only share that dropbox URL wt these people? I'm assuming your username is the same as the official name of your label at the moment? It could be that you're getting a lot of tracks (is it really 9000? sounds very very very extreme!) since your label is probably quite popular and there's several people who'd like to submit their music to you?
If you want a specific "folder" for music only coming from a specific dropbox you could also try creating a moderated group and ask people to submit to the group (all groups have their own dropboxes).
Does that help? -
Inappropriate?create a new account? and pay again? why would that be necessary?
I have the same problem ..
yesterday I had roughly 10 or 15 trax in my dropbox w/ the little indicator showing me there were 3 I haven't checked yet ..
today I login and I have 256 TRAX from people I don't know
and there's no way they have all be shared to me overnight..
the new 'TRACKS' feature pretty much disables one of the greatest features for labels :( ..
at least create some sort of indicator for what was directly dropped in the box rather than just shared from within soundcloud ..
this is really making me upset since I just upgraded to a pro account to use soundcloud effectively for my label :(
Please fix!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?a possible solution may be to filter the 'tracks' ..
so you could by one click look only at the privately shared ones ..
as a label owner I'm not really interested in stuff that's publicly shared anyway
I’m mad
-
that's a good idea.
If tracks shared to you are public it means they we're shared privately and later on changed to public. It could be the case that they were shared before release (private) and have been released since (then made public). -
Inappropriate?Ah, ok. One of the problems now is that you'll be seeing all of the tracks previously shared to you (i.e. not just since yesterday) all at once. That's why it might look a bit overwhelming right now, today. I'm checking if there's maybe something that could be done for this issue during the transition. (An indicator is also planned)
It should start feeling quite similar to how you're used to over the next few days though (since you won't get a whole bunch of tracks at once as now in the transition).
There will be more filters in under the Tracks tabs in the future allowing you to fine tune exactly what you'd like to see, I'm not sure on the exact release date for this though (but will check). -
Inappropriate?Sorry I was away from my computer for a bit and I noticed that you replied, wow thanks for the quick reply btw. Yes I'm from the soundcloud account IDMForums-collective and when I logged in this morning I had about 8500 shared tracks and 600 tracks from people that are following me or vice versa. It basically made me go o_0
I suppose I'll take a look at the groups, but yes these tracks need to private. Filters or some way that the uploader can specify exactly what folder they are uploading to for us would be a huge help. We will have to have all the people who have uploaded for our current compilation re-upload because it's a jungle in our new sharebox, haha. The thought of going through that many tracks to find our own hurts my brain just thinking about it, and I hope to see it fixed.
Thanks again for the immediate attention. -
Thanks! I agree on that some more filters are needed & that it would be a bit of a drag to go through all those tracks at once! -
I think filters are not a good idea. The idea of dropbox folders makes more sense. Can let the user select which folder, defined by the dropbox owner, to drop in. And folders should be closeable, meaning no more drops, by the owner. These would no longer show up on any list users see of folders when dropping. -
Inappropriate? The group thing works great - it takes a second to put an already-uploaded track there. And you could make a group for each collection, so it is very specific and easy to keep straight.
-
Inappropriate?Ok, thanks for the quick feedback guys. We put a little surprise up just now, have a look!
-
Very cool .. helps a lot. one click and all the radio shows are gone .. lol :)
I think this way I can really get to tracks that are truly meant as a demo for release consideration on MY label ..
thank you for the quick addition..
keep the surprises coming ..

Inappropriate?since the update i really feel spammed. i hope there will be a default setting "don't let privately shared tracks from people you don't follow appear in my dashboard"
feels a bit screwed up right now... hope that will be back to something comfortable again... -
Inappropriate?I run the IDMf with Fid and I have to say this entire dropbox removal without any warning has really screwed up one of our projects.
Please add it back, I'm not too happy about all of this. Groups are nice but unnecessary & complicated.
I’m pissed.

Inappropriate?Oh, you're kidding me! I was wondering why I couldn't find the tab that used to be on my profile page! I've set up a dropbox too for a specific purpose and now I can't find any of the tracks I know have been uploaded there. There's a million and one tracks to wade through elsewhere and I don't have the time for filtering them, it will take forever to work out and then do it. This sucks bigtime!
I’m very unhappy

Inappropriate?Okay, so I am setting up a new profile for this and will now embark on a mass of work replacing the links all over the internet *shaking her head in dismay*
I’m about to have to do a mass of work immediately and without warning

Ah, it's probably better in the long run that I have a separate profile for the Pixicast podcast. Send us a track Nicken, would love to have you in the show! http://soundcloud.com/pixicast/dropbox -
p.s. sorry for overposting here, i was upset at the time. like so many artists i am on so many sites and it's hard when changes occur that muck things up for your projects. will all work better i think anyway :) -
If you want a dropbox for a specific project you could also try setting up a moderated group for that (all groups have dropboxes). -

Inappropriate?I don't know if I'm completely off topic but for me it sort of not resolve the problem unless I maybe need to start another topic (?).
Basically the shared tracks could be nice but only from people i follow because it just flood my inbox with email notification. I still would like to receive notification because i want to when people i follow drop me something but not the rest.
I hope i make sense here (didn't get my coffee today yet).
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?Hi JP!
Ok, I think I know what you mean, hopefully this will help.
Like you suggest, its important to keep all the tracks from people you follow in one place, that would be here:
http://soundcloud.com/tracks/following
Other tracks, from people you don't follow (which could include new people putting things in your dropbox) end up here:
http://soundcloud.com/tracks/others
On both places you have the check-box filter to be able to quickly check that stuff that's only shared to a few people (like the screen-shot above).
Then we have the email notifications! How often and for what you recieve emails is pretty flexible under your email notification settings here:
http://soundcloud.com/settings/email
Hope that helps! -
Inappropriate?I really have to agree with the first post. Whilst Alex has admirably explained how to filter the stuff, i like the dropbox as it was simple for everyone to use and easy to access. Why should i have to go through all this filtering to get that the tracks that have been specifically uploaded for my label.
I THINK THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE. I really like soundcloud but you are blowing it here big time. I am paying my subscription for the dropbox facility most of all. Unless it goes back to the old method i may have to unsubscribe.
I’m really really really pissed off
-
Inappropriate? Also i have just filtered the tracks to show tracks from others but i am still trying to wade through all the shit that has been sent to anyone on Soundcloud.
BRING BACK THE DROPBOX.
I’m even more pissed off.
-
Inappropriate?I really need the old box back .
what happens since you guys allowed to share tracks that already are uploaded is that I get shared the same track w/ 20 other people . .
that is obviously someone trying to shop his demo but I won't get it cause it's more than a handful and if I uncheck that option, I'll have to go thru 1800 shared tunes ..
The 'new' dropbox is IMPOSSIBLE to use this as a professional tool to help the demo process ..
bummer ..
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Mate, i completely agree. i have been in dialogue directly and one guy Nils understands how we feel and they are talking about bringing the specific dropbox tab back within the tracks menu. i followed this up and i get some guy emailing me (not nils) saying they were still deciding what to do as some people 'love' the new system. ARE YOU HAVING A LAUGH! I used the dropbox for demos for my labels as it was easy for the artist to submit and easy for me to check the tunes. Now its not there i basically dont use soundcloud. I just cant understand why they tried to fix something that wasnt broke. until it goes back to the old way at least for the dropbox, i am not interested and soundcloud has blown it in my mind. After doing so well. I know loads of other people who cant believe they got rid of it. It was their USP (unique selling proposition).
BRING IT BACK!
I’m really really really annoyed
