it's the new limit. http://support.soundcloud.com/soundcl...

dj merritt's reply to "New limits and DJ mixes" was just promoted to the most useful! subfader and 3 other people think it's one of the best replies.
the bottom line is that everybody uses soundcloud for a whole variety of reasons... the ONE common reason is the HOSTING.
Soundcloud is a place for all of us (artists/producers/dj's/podcasters/etc.) to host our stuff.
Just create tiered levels of hosting accounts based on disk space, and that will solve all the problems.
Sure we use all the awesome ancillary things Soundcloud offers. They do great stuff: the widgets, the online community, etc. (These are the things that BRING all of us to the HOSTING)
again, the common thing we all use is hosting. it's the awesome other stuff that brings us to the Soundcloud party.
artists that want to host full AAC, WAV or whatever will still have a certain set of diskspace to work with just as a dj that wants to post dj sets as mp3s.
how about a dj that wants to post mixes and a few tracks that they produce?
changing the structure to GIG space is the answer. it's a tested format that all online hosting companies use. Soundcloud will beat them in the area of music because they offer more... but right now, it's unusable for a lot of people- even the one's that pay a good amount of money.
think of all the podcasters that create shows and would like to use the widgets on their webpages... there is a lot of business that is being missed with the "minute" pricing scheme.
the Soundcloud business model right now only makes sense to artists & producers and time limits exclude all the others.
please rethink this!
I think soundcloud is awesome... i just want it to be usable for dj's like me.

Seriously: In comparison to people following you, why do you think the people YOU follow could be interested in your stuff?
That's why I think this is a spam-only feature.

as pointed out by george it might be best to limit the ammount of strangers (users who don't follow the sender) to send tracks to.

I've been using soundcloud since it began .. and i have to say i dont think the changes work .. a combination of both maybe .. if the reason you limited the minutes is to save storage space which is pretty obvious and completely understandable.. (marketing it as a cute "retro tape " idea doesn't wash with anyone ive spoken too, they've all seen through it) then say so please .. people love honesty not marketing guff.
how about make any track thats longer than 25 mins (because anything longer than that 99% of the time is a mix or bands live gig) , must be 128kbps or less .. then only taking up the same space as an average length wav / aiff individual track.. i know it complicates the system slightly but that way everyone gets what they want .. just an idea off the top of my head, feel free to correct it .
like lots and lots of people on here im a Dj/ Producer, and i use it for both putting up tracks AND mixes .. i use it as THE one stop shop to hear what i am about .. thats what makes soundcloud great .. all music to do with me in one place, not one mix on divshare or yousendit .. and a the tracks on somewhere else like myspace .. people can just go on my profile and hear it all ..
For the site to continue to grow it Must have.. producers AND dj's AND labels etc.. for it to continue to work .. other wise whats the point in using it.
I dont think im on my own here , and i feel the product is being seriously hindered if it cannot provide me both the ability to post mixes and tracks for a reasonable price ..
I do think the pricing system is very reasonable as it is (the cup of coffe a month analogy is a very good one) BUT only if we can have a way round to get both tracks and mixes ..
.. i'm worried it has the potential to completely hamstring soundcloud in its infancy .. i really like the website and the way its provided its service..
i've recommended soundcloud to nearly every one i know .. it would be a shame to stop doing this because it doesn't satisfy my (and thousands of others like me ) business requirements anymore
thanks for reading if you got this far ..

There was this change (to come?) that you could send a track to only one group in order to have spam under control.

subfader reported a problem in SoundCloud on November 16, 2009 00:46:
Oops, a web full of dead links & dead playersYour new account model is based on deleting older stuff as soon as the limit is reached (as you even point out on that tape thingy page as "simply delete old stuff...").
Have you actually considered that your new limits lead to an enormous number of dead players and dead links?
Most dead links are surely experienced via google (i guess the dead pages are not deleted in google's index cos the 404 message appears as "content"). Now google is used by quite few people, some are existing users (they are forced to use it cos your search doesn't work at all) but most are new users which get SC in their search results looking for music. Now how do you think do they feel when every 10th or so link is dead?
And don't forget the millions of embedded players (quite good guess) on all those myfaceblogforums. Ooops...
I think that's a very big problem; for the users and you. It makes you looks like a very bad service to new users... Do you actually have an idea how big this problem is?
Seriously, the more days pass with the new account model, it's getting more and more clear that it has more disadvantages than advantages.

Please open a new idea thread for "I would also like to see a feature to simply "hide" tracks without deleting them." but they want to save webspace so this might not be liked.-
